The crane/derrick is physically attached to the barge, pontoons, vessel or other means of flotation. (i) Derricks must be constructed to meet all stresses imposed on members and components when installed and operated in accordance with the manufacturer's/builder's procedures and within its rated capacity. (3) Know how to use load charts. When using an assist crane, the loads that will be imposed on the assist crane at each phase of assembly/disassembly must be verified in accordance with 1926.1417(o)(3) before assembly/disassembly begins. (ii) The inspection must include functional testing of the equipment. (2) Response to do not operate/tag-out signs. (A) Luffing boom tower cranes must have a boom angle indicator readable from the operator's station. (vi) Load indicating device. One or more of the following methods must be used: (i) Mark the boom with measured marks to calculate boom length. When a local storm warning has been issued, the competent person must determine whether it is necessary to implement manufacturer recommendations for securing the equipment.
