Its about following in Christs footsteps, instead of going astray in the wrong direction. And you get that in verse 6, "Seek the Lord while he may be found. There in verse 9, our ways and thoughts are contrasted with Gods ways and thoughts. It says, "Call on me in the day of trouble. That's when God is near. It was an opportunity to encounter the living God. If God answers your call in that way and you refuse to forsake what your conscience condemns, then you cease to seek God, and your words become empty. Today Gods mercy reminds us of the Lords forgiveness. The prophet Amos communicated the same sense of urgency, repeatedly issuing the Lord's appeal to "seek me and live" ( Amos 5:4-7, 14-15 ). How is he found by us here? The rebels of God. Do that in his Word. As believers the Lord reminds us that his plans for us include hope and a future. So, today, if you hear his voice, don't harden your hearts. That's how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. And the connection is in the word "For" that begins the Word, verse eight. Like in Psalm 50, verse 15. Second, ask God to give you new joy in his love. This week we will consider verses 6-7 in detail. If you harden your heart now, you don't know that he'll be found by you tomorrow. Read PSALM 38 to see how David suffered physically because of his sin. When Jesus was born, in Matthew chapter one, that Isaiah prophecy, "The virgin will be with child," was fulfilled. That's the connection, because of the words, "my ways and my thoughts." So take that analogy to our relationship with God. Something was in the way. It says, "Call on me in the day of trouble. TODAY is the day to seek the Lord while He may be found. God draws near to us by means of Jesus, by means of Jesus, in the incarnation. B. Verse 6. It says, "Call on me in the day of trouble. What do you need that for? These two verses remind us of the basics of the gospel. What does it mean to come to the waters (Isaiah 55:1)? Your call is empty. It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.". And he pleads with us to listen to him and eat and to drink what is good and be delighted in fatness and richness of fare. Now is our time of grace to grow in the wisdom of our eternal salvation. Rev. So how do we RSVP, we call on the name of the Lord and we repent, repent of our wickedness and our sins that's what we do? And she says, "Have you forsaken this woman?" We seek the Lord in faith, call upon his name in prayer, asking for forgiveness and grace. I can save you. There'll come a time when God will not be found. Please, heed the call! We search for our shoes, belt, our car keys, our homework. He's saying, "I forgive better than you do. So, that's what you have. How do we tell the Lord of the banquet that we're in, we want to come? I say return because I actually preached two sermons from it about a year and a half ago before I started the Romans series. This is the new covenant in the blood of Jesus, the Savior of the world. After all, no one really takes any pleasure in admitting wrongdoing or shortcomings. This describes our sinful nature we inherit at birth. Close with me in prayer. Make up your mind today to repent of your sins and follow the ways of Christ as his disciple. He's calling you higher, to a closer relationship with him. The context there in Deuteronomy 4:29 is that God is envisioning a time in the future when the people of Israel would sin against God in idolatry, and that God would expel them out of the Promised Land because of that. And God raised him up on the third day. Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight "Well, I'd like to go to heaven." This seeking and calling is but an expression of faith. If we seek Him with all our heart, and all our soul, we will find Him. 7 Let the wicked man forsake his own way and the unrighteous man his own thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that He may have compassion, and to our God, for He will freely pardon. Yes, but you won't. "SEEK THE LORD WHILE HE MAY BE FOUND". In fact, we are sinners from birth. He's not always going to be near like he is right now. The Lord God Almighty is our loving, gracious, and forgiving heavenly Father. Holy ground. That's the essence of repentance. "Seek the Lord while he may be found. I think it's very similar to the holy ground of Moses and the burning bush. It's not exactly the same, but there's a yearning in the heart for the Lord and it results in crying out to the Lord, calling on him. Lets turn now to our second point and consider the call to repentance found in the first half of verse 7. Jesus said to the woman at the well, Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. All mankind need Gods mercy. God brought you through the elements, through the storm and the wind and the rain and the freezing and all that, and brought you here today. If you're in, you're in, if you're out, you're out. To the wicked and the unrighteous. We get thirsty in life, we get thirsty and we are idolatrous, we tend to go after other things that don't satisfy. King James Version. As a family.
